Fun holiday ideas for fathers

Malaysia offers many fascinating places where you can go for all kinds of holidays. This Father’s Day, why not plan for a weekend getaway with the family? Here are some ideas.

Young fathers

For fathers with a baby or young child, there might some limitations as to where they can go for a holiday. An extreme adventure park, for example, is out of the question.

Opt for a cruise holiday where facilities including entertainment, wellness, food and beverage are all on board. Some cruise lines (Star Cruises, Royal Caribbean) provide childcare services so that parents can have some “time off” without worrying too much about the kids.

You can also bring Dad to an all-inclusive resort like Club Med Cherating Beach in Pahang where there are plenty of activities for guests including jungle trekking, watersports, rockclimbing and spa treatments. Best of all, the resort has a cool and reliable childcare service that looks after – and entertains – kids as young as four.

Fathers with teens

If Dad enjoys the outdoors, go on a camping or glamping trip. The Forest Research Institute Malaysia in Selangor has camping facilities that’s popular with families. This is a good place for a picnic and just exploring nature.

For something with more creature comforts, try glamping at Tadom Hill Resorts in Banting, Selangor or Tanah Aina Fahad in Raub, Pahang. There are ATV rides, flying fox, jungle trekking, paintball and other activities for the whole family.

But if Dad is not the outdoors-y guy, then try a theme park holiday. Malaysia’s very own Resorts World Genting in Pahang is a popular and very accessible holiday and entertainment resort with a fun theme park (Skytropolis Funland) for older kids and adults.

There are internationally-renowned shows and performances, a casino, lots of shops and restaurants, too.

Dads with adult children

Going on holiday with Mum or Dad when you’re a full-fledged adult can be a lot of fun. This Father’s Day weekend, head off on a gastronomical road trip with Dad. We can almost guarantee that there are lots of delicious food to savour along the way!

Besides food, there are interesting towns and tourist attractions to visit on the trip. You could also go on walking tours to discover a city or town’s history and culture. Some good options for walking tours are Klang, Melaka, Ipoh and Penang.

If Dad enjoys photography, you can also go on a self-planned photo walk or tour. The country has plenty of places with scenic views where you can take those amazing shots, like Kundasang in Sabah, Cameron Higlands in Pahang, Langkawi Island in Kedah and even, the city of Kuala Lumpur.

Senior fathers

If Dad is older and enjoys “slower holidays” (unscheduled, itinerary-less trips at your own pace) perhaps a getaway to an island resort would be ideal.

A good resort would have plenty of activities prepared for guests, but you are not pressured to participate in any of them if you don’t want to.

A resort with a golf course is a good option for some fathers, too, or a place with wellness facilities.
